Yes, sex sells, but where do we draw the line?

When choosing a dance school do you ever think about WHAT KIND OF VALUES AND MORALS YOUR DANCE SCHOOL IS INSTILLING IN YOUR CHILD?

This controversial video was taken at a dance competition of a group of 8 year olds girls.  They wear bra tops and booty shorts that look like lingerie and dance to Beyonce’s Single Ladies song.

Many people are saying the moves are raunchy, and mini corsets and knee highs have them looking like they came straight out of a pole dancing class!

As a dance teacher I always find it mind blowing to attend some of these dance competitions where dances like this are becoming the norm.  Yes, these girls are amazing dancers, but where do we draw the line with age appropriate dance moves?  And whatever happened to Hannah Montana and High School Musical?  Yes, sex sells, but do we have to subject our young girls to wearing skimpy outfits to win over an audience?

Call me old-fashioned but I feel it is our responsibility as parents and teachers to make sure we to teach kids be kids and not rush the growing up process.  I really feel the teachers could have displayed their talent with a more age appropriate routine and costumes.

Wow! I totally agree. That was way over the top. As entertaining and talented as these girls are…I certainly can’t imagine myself sitting in an audience as a mother, watching my child grind on stage like that. INSANE!

As moms we have to set the standard for our children, boys and girls! I agree with you completely! Modesty, in any situation, is fundamental! Thank you for having higher standards, our community needs it! I will look into your classes for my girls!
